These honey garlic meatballs are an easy, flavorful slow cooker recipe featuring a sweet-savory glaze and toasted sesame seeds for a delightful crunch. Perfect for busy weeknights or casual gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds frozen or pre-cooked meatballs (beef or turkey)
  • ½ cup honey (120 ml)
  • ⅓ cup low sodium soy sauce (80 ml)
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tablespoon grated fresh ginger (15 ml)
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar (30 ml)
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil (5 ml)
  • 2 tablespoons toasted sesame seeds (20 g)
  • ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 2 green onions, thinly sliced

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, whisk together honey, soy sauce, minced garlic, grated ginger, rice vinegar, sesame oil, and optional red pepper flakes. Set aside.
  2. Place frozen or pre-cooked meatballs evenly in the slow cooker; no need to thaw.
  3. Pour the prepared sauce evenly over the meatballs, tossing gently with a spatula or spoon to coat.
  4. Cover and cook on low for 4 to 5 hours or on high for 2 to 3 hours until sauce thickens and meatballs are heated through.
  5. While meatballs cook, toast sesame seeds in a dry skillet over medium heat for 2-3 minutes until golden and fragrant, stirring frequently.
  6. Once cooked, sprinkle toasted sesame seeds and sliced green onions over the meatballs before serving.

Notes

If sauce is too thin after cooking, remove lid and cook on high for 15-20 minutes to reduce and thicken. Use tamari instead of soy sauce for gluten-free. Toast sesame seeds carefully to avoid burning. Fresh or homemade meatballs can be used but adjust cooking time accordingly.
