  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

Instructions

  1. Pat the chicken drumsticks dry with paper towels. Season generously with salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and smoked paprika. Set aside for 10 minutes.
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together bourbon whiskey (1/2 cup), BBQ sauce (1 cup), brown sugar (2 tbsp), and apple cider vinegar (2 tbsp) until sugar dissolves and mixture is smooth.
  3. Preheat grill to medium heat, about 350°F. For charcoal grills, arrange coals for indirect grilling.
  4. Use tongs to wipe a paper towel soaked in olive oil over the grill grates to prevent sticking.
  5. Place drumsticks on the grill over indirect heat. Close lid and cook for about 20 minutes, turning every 5-7 minutes.
  6. After 20 minutes, baste drumsticks with bourbon BBQ glaze using a brush. Turn every 3-4 minutes and continue basting for another 15 minutes until glaze is sticky and caramelized. Ensure internal temperature reaches 165°F.
  7. For extra crispiness, move drumsticks over direct heat for the last 2-3 minutes per side, watching carefully to avoid burning.
  8. Remove from grill and let rest for 5 minutes before serving.
