A quick and easy frozen strawberry basil margarita that combines sweet strawberries with fresh basil for a vibrant, refreshing party drink perfect for warm-weather gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups (600g) frozen strawberries
  • 1520 fresh basil leaves
  • 1 1/2 cups (360ml) tequila blanco
  • 1/2 cup (120ml) triple sec or Cointreau
  • 3/4 cup (180ml) fresh lime juice
  • 1/2 cup (120ml) simple syrup
  • 2 cups (300g) ice cubes (optional, for texture)
  • Coarse salt (for rimming glasses, optional)
  • Lime wedges (for garnish and rimming)
  • Fresh strawberry slices (optional, for garnish)
  • Basil sprigs (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Prepare your glasses by pouring coarse salt onto a small plate. Rub a lime wedge around the rim of each glass, then dip the rim into the salt to coat evenly. Set aside to dry slightly (about 5 minutes).
  2. Juice the limes using a citrus juicer until you have about 3/4 cup (180ml) of fresh lime juice. Strain to remove seeds and pulp (2-3 minutes).
  3. In a high-speed blender, combine frozen strawberries, fresh basil leaves, tequila blanco, triple sec or Cointreau, fresh lime juice, and simple syrup. Blend on high for 1-2 minutes until smooth and basil is fully incorporated (3-4 minutes).
  4. If your blender isn’t powerful enough to create a thick frozen texture, add about 2 cups (300g) of ice cubes and pulse until crushed and blended. Avoid over-blending to prevent watery consistency (2-3 minutes).
  5. Taste and adjust sweetness by adding more simple syrup if needed. If too strong, add a bit of cold water or more ice and blend briefly to mix (1-2 minutes).
  6. Serve immediately by pouring the margarita into prepared glasses. Garnish each with a basil sprig and a slice of fresh strawberry or lime wedge (5 minutes).

Notes

Use frozen strawberries to keep the margarita icy without diluting the flavor. Fresh basil is essential for the herbal note; avoid dried basil. For less sweetness, adjust simple syrup or substitute with agave nectar or honey. For a non-alcoholic version, replace tequila and triple sec with sparkling water and orange juice. Blend in batches for large crowds and keep the base refrigerated up to 24 hours without ice. Avoid freezing the blended margarita to maintain texture.
