This Pizza Grilled Cheese Sandwich combines the gooey melted cheese, crispy golden bread, and tangy marinara sauce for a quick, flavor-packed indulgence. Perfect for busy weeknights or a fun treat.

Ingredients

  • Thick slices of sourdough, Italian bread, or plain white bread
  • Softened butter (or garlic butter for extra flavor)
  • Marinara sauce
  • Shredded mozzarella cheese
  • Pepperoni (optional)
  • Italian seasoning (oregano, basil, garlic powder)
  • Optional toppings: sliced olives, diced bell peppers, mushrooms

Instructions

  1. Butter the outside slices of bread. Spread marinara sauce on the inside of one slice. Sprinkle Italian seasoning over the sauce.
  2. Layer shredded mozzarella cheese on top of the marinara sauce. Add pepperoni slices or other toppings like olives and bell peppers.
  3. Place the second slice of bread on top, buttered side facing out.
  4. Warm a nonstick skillet over medium heat. Place the sandwich in the skillet.
  5. Cook for 2-3 minutes on each side, pressing gently with a spatula to ensure even browning. Flip carefully to avoid spilling the fillings.
  6. Once the cheese is fully melted and the bread is golden brown, remove the sandwich from the skillet.
  7. Let the sandwich cool for 1-2 minutes before slicing it in half. Serve immediately while the cheese is still gooey.

Notes

For an ultra-crispy sandwich, consider using a panini press. If the cheese isn’t melting quickly enough, cover the skillet with a lid for a minute or two to trap the heat.
