Soft, buttery cookies topped with whimsical chocolate witch hats make these Halloween treats a fun and festive centerpiece for any celebration.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (227 g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup (200 g) granulated sugar
  • 1 egg, room temperature
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 ½ cups (310 g) all-purpose flour
  • ½ tsp baking powder
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 24 chocolate sugar cones
  • 2 cups (340 g) chocolate chips or melting chocolate
  • Colored icing or piping gel (orange, purple, green, or black for decoration)
  • Sprinkles (optional for extra flair)

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy (about 2-3 minutes). Add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing until combined.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until a soft dough forms. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and chill for 30 minutes.
  3. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
  4. Roll out the chilled dough to a thickness of about ¼ inch. Use a round cookie cutter to cut out circles and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
  5. Bake the cookies for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. Cool completely before decorating.
  6. In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the chocolate chips in 20-second increments, stirring between each until smooth.
  7. Dip the rim of each chocolate sugar cone in the melted chocolate, then attach it to the center of a cookie to form the hat. Let it set for a few minutes.
  8. Use colored icing to pipe decorative bands around the base of each hat and add sprinkles or other festive touches.

Notes

[‘Chilling the dough helps the cookies hold their shape during baking.’, ‘Roll the dough evenly to ensure all cookies bake at the same rate.’, ‘Use a toothpick or small brush for intricate icing details.’, ‘If melted chocolate is too thick, add a teaspoon of coconut oil to thin it out.’, ‘Attach the cones while the chocolate is still warm but not runny to ensure a secure bond.’]
