  • 1 cup (240 ml) warm water (about 110°F/43°C)
  • 2 ¼ tsp (1 packet) active dry yeast
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 ½ tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp salt

Instructions

  1. Activate the Yeast: In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. Make the Dough: In a large mixing bowl (or stand mixer), combine the flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and vegetable oil. Mix until a shaggy dough forms.
  3. Knead the Dough: Knead by hand for 8-10 minutes or with a stand mixer for 5 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic.
  4. Let It Rise: Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth or plastic wrap, and let it rise for 1 hour in a warm spot. It should double in size.
  5. Shape the Breadsticks: Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a 6-inch stick and place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  6. Second Rise: Cover the breadsticks loosely with plastic wrap and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
  7. Bake: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Bake the breadsticks for 12-14 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Prepare the Topping: While the breadsticks are baking, mix melted butter, garlic powder, and salt in a small bowl.
  9. Brush and Serve: Brush the hot breadsticks with the buttery garlic topping as soon as they come out of the oven. Serve warm!

Notes

Ensure the water temperature is around 110°F to activate the yeast properly. Brush the garlic butter topping while the breadsticks are still hot for maximum flavor absorption.
