A warm, cheesy casserole that’s perfect for busy evenings, family gatherings, or when you’re craving something hearty and delicious.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups diced cooked ham
  • 2 cups elbow macaroni or other short pasta
  • 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 2 cups whole milk or 2% milk
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional add-ins: frozen peas, broccoli florets, or diced bell peppers

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the pasta and cook until al dente, according to the package instructions. Drain and set aside.
  3. In a skillet or saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Whisk in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes to eliminate the raw flour taste.
  4. Gradually add the milk, whisking constantly to avoid lumps. Cook until the sauce thickens, about 5 minutes.
  5. Remove the sauce from heat and stir in the shredded cheddar cheese until melted and smooth. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  6. In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked pasta, diced ham, and cheese sauce. Add optional veggies if using.
  7. Pour the mixture into a greased 9×13-inch baking dish. Spread it evenly.
  8. Sprinkle breadcrumbs over the casserole for a crispy finish.
  9. Bake uncovered for 20-25 minutes, or until the top is golden and the casserole is bubbling.
  10. Let the casserole cool for 5 minutes before serving.
