Easy Fresh Caprese Graduation Cap Skewers Perfect for Celebrations

These fresh and festive Caprese skewers combine creamy mozzarella, juicy tomatoes, and fragrant basil with a balsamic glaze, perfect for graduation parties and celebrations. Quick to assemble with no baking required, they offer a light, crowd-pleasing appetizer.

Ingredients

  • 1 pint (300 grams) cherry or grape tomatoes, ripe and firm
  • 8 ounces (225 grams) fresh mozzarella balls (bocconcini), drained
  • 1 small bunch (1520 leaves) fresh basil leaves
  • 2025 small pitted black olives (Kalamata or black ripe olives)
  • About 20 mini square crackers or thinly sliced toasted baguette pieces
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons balsamic glaze
  • Salt, to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Rinse cherry tomatoes and basil leaves gently under cold water and pat dry.
  2. Drain mozzarella balls thoroughly to avoid sogginess.
  3. If using baguette slices, toast them lightly until golden and crisp.
  4. Place one cracker or toasted baguette slice on your prep surface as the cap base.
  5. Skewer a mozzarella ball onto a wooden skewer or toothpick and place it upright on the cracker base.
  6. Skewer a cherry tomato right above the mozzarella ball on the same skewer.
  7. Fold a fresh basil leaf gently and skewer it just above the tomato.
  8. Slice a black olive into thin strips or halves and attach one or two pieces to the side of the cap cracker using the skewer to mimic a tassel.
  9. Drizzle extra virgin olive oil over each skewer, then sprinkle with salt and freshly ground black pepper.
  10. Drizzle balsamic glaze over the skewers using a spoon or squeeze bottle.
  11. Arrange the skewers on a platter standing or lying flat, ensuring caps and tassels are visible.

Notes

Drain and pat dry mozzarella to prevent soggy crackers. Assemble skewers close to serving time to keep basil fresh and crackers crisp. Use a dab of cream cheese or ricotta as edible glue if olive tassels slip. Store assembled skewers covered in the fridge and add balsamic glaze just before serving.
