  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Vegetable oil spray
  • For the glaze:
  • 1 cup (120g) powdered sugar
  • 23 tablespoons (30-45ml) milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together 2 cups (250g) of all-purpose flour, 1/4 cup (50g) granulated sugar, 2 teaspoons baking powder, and 1/2 teaspoon salt.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk 3/4 cup (180ml) of room temperature milk, 1 large egg, 2 tablespoons (28g) melted unsalted butter, and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract until smooth.
  3. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry and gently fold with a spatula until just combined. Avoid overmixing; the dough should be soft but slightly sticky.
  4. Lightly flour a clean surface and roll the dough out to about 1/2-inch (1.3cm) thickness. Use a donut cutter or substitutes to cut out donut shapes, including the holes. Gather scraps and re-roll if needed.
  5. Preheat your air fryer to 350°F (175°C) for about 3-5 minutes.
  6. Lightly spray donuts with vegetable oil spray on both sides.
  7. Place donuts in the air fryer basket in a single layer, leaving space between each. Cook at 350°F (175°C) for 5 minutes, then flip and air fry for another 3-4 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
  8. While donuts air fry, whisk together 1 cup (120g) powdered sugar, 2-3 tablespoons (30-45ml) milk, and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract until smooth. Adjust milk quantity for desired glaze thickness.
  9. Dip the warm donuts into the glaze, letting the excess drip off. Place on a wire rack or parchment paper to set for about 10 minutes.

Notes

Preheat the air fryer for best crispiness. Avoid overcrowding the basket. Flip donuts halfway through cooking. Lightly spray with oil before air frying for a crispy crust. Adjust glaze thickness by adding more powdered sugar or milk as needed. Let glaze set before serving. Dough should be mixed just until combined to avoid toughness.
