Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon fine sea salt (plus extra for sprinkling)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional, but recommended)
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup white chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons coarse or flaky sea salt (for topping)
  • Festive sprinkles or edible glitter (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, sea salt, and cinnamon. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, beat softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
  4. Beat in eggs one at a time, then add vanilla extract and mix until incorporated.
  5. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet mixture, mixing on low until just combined. Do not over-mix.
  6. Fold in semisweet chocolate chips, white chocolate chips, and nuts (if using) with a spatula. Add festive sprinkles if desired.
  7. Use a medium cookie scoop or two spoons to drop dough balls (about 2 tablespoons each) onto prepared baking sheets, spacing about 2 inches apart. Optionally, press extra chips and sprinkles on top.
  8. Bake for 10-12 minutes, rotating sheets halfway through, until edges are set and centers are just barely golden.
  9. Immediately sprinkle each cookie with flaky sea salt. Let cookies cool on the sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For extra soft centers, underbake slightly and let cookies cool on the sheet. Dough does not require chilling, but chilling for 20 minutes yields thicker cookies. Adapt for gluten-free or dairy-free diets by swapping flour and butter. Sprinkle sea salt on top for best flavor. Store in airtight container for up to 4 days or freeze for up to 2 months.
