Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups (240g) all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/3 cup (75g) granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 medium apples, peeled, cored, and diced (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp recommended)
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/3 cup (80ml) milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup (120g) powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line your baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Heat the butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add the diced apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the apples soften and caramelize. Remove from heat and let cool.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, sugar, and cinnamon.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk the milk, egg, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  5. Slowly add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined. Fold in the cooled apple filling.
  6. Scoop about 1/4 cup of dough for each fritter and place on the prepared baking sheet. Flatten slightly with the back of a spoon.
  7. Bake for 15-18 minutes or until the fritters are golden brown and firm to the touch.
  8. While the fritters cool, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract in a small bowl until smooth.
  9. Drizzle or brush the glaze over the fritters. Let it set for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

[‘Cook the apples until soft but not mushy for the perfect texture.’, ‘Avoid overmixing the dough to keep the fritters fluffy.’, ‘Use parchment paper to prevent sticking and make cleanup easier.’, ‘Allow fritters to cool slightly before glazing to prevent the glaze from melting off.’, ‘Space fritters out on the baking sheet for even baking.’]
