This easy, no-bake party snack combines crunchy Rice Chex cereal with creamy white chocolate, real strawberry flavor from freeze-dried strawberries, and a sweet powdered sugar coating. It’s a crowd-pleasing treat perfect for parties, gifting, or anytime snacking.

  • 6 cups Rice Chex cereal (about 180g)
  • 1 1/2 cups white chocolate chips (about 255g)
  • 1 ounce freeze-dried strawberries (about 28g)
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar (about 180g)
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted (about 28g)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (about 5ml)
  • 1/2 cup shortbread cookies, crushed (about 60g, optional)

Instructions

  1. Add freeze-dried strawberries to a blender or food processor and pulse until you have a fine powder. In a medium bowl, combine the strawberry powder with powdered sugar. Set aside.
  2. In a microwave-safe bowl, combine white chocolate chips and melted butter. Microwave in 30-second bursts, stirring in between, until smooth and fully melted (about 60–90 seconds total). Stir in vanilla extract.
  3. Place Rice Chex cereal in a large mixing bowl. Drizzle the melted chocolate mixture over the cereal. Use a rubber spatula to gently fold and coat every piece.
  4. Pour the coated cereal into a large zip-top bag or a lidded bowl. Add the strawberry-powdered sugar mixture. Seal and shake until every piece is covered.
  5. Gently fold in crushed shortbread cookies, if using.
  6. Spread the puppy chow out on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Let it cool for 10–15 minutes to set the coating.
  7. Once cooled, transfer to an airtight container or jars for gifting. Store at room temperature for up to a week.

Notes

For a gluten-free version, use only Rice Chex and skip or substitute gluten-free cookies. Melt white chocolate slowly to avoid burning. Customize with extra freeze-dried berries, nuts, or pretzels for added crunch. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 7 days, or freeze for up to a month.
